Tree of Life
Mama’s Kitchen and Village Hillcrest will host the 17th annual Tree of Life Lighting Ceremony on Monday, December 1st from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The Ceremony is held each year on World AIDS Day and commemorates those affected by AIDS, as well as recognizes the ongoing leadership efforts made to end the epidemic.
“The Tree of Life Ceremony is a special time for members of our community to remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS, and to honor those who continue to live with this disease,” notes Alberto Cortés, our Executive Director. “There is still so much work to be done to eliminate this heartbreaking pandemic that has affected so many of us.”
This year, emcee Kimberly Hunt of KGTV’s 10News will be joined by local elected and government officials and hundreds of San Diegans. In addition to remarks from Cortés and the evening’s special guests, the Ceremony includes a candlelight vigil led by Terry Cunningham, Chief of the HIV, STD and Hepatitis Branch of Public Health, and holiday music provided by the Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego.

The Tree of Life at Village Hillcrest will be decorated with ornaments personalized to honor those who have been affected by AIDS. The Tree of Life will remain on display at Village Hillcrest throughout the holiday season. Ornaments may be purchased here and at Village Hillcrest that evening for $15 each or two for $25.
