Mama’s Pie in the Sky 2008 benefits local men, women and children living with AIDS/HIV and other critical illnesses; Sale begins Oct. 1; Volunteers needed
SAN DIEGO – Aug. 18, 2008 – Mama's Kitchen announces the return of Mama’s Pie In The Sky , a Thanksgiving bake sale. Volunteers will begin to pre-sell delectable holiday pies through businesses, schools and organizations all over San Diego County. The official kick-off is Oct. 15, and the final day for sales is Nov. 21, 2008.
San Diego County’s best pastry chefs, caterers and bakeries donate thousands of delicious pumpkin, pecan, apple and sugar-free apple pies to the effort, now in it’s fourth year. Pies are only $20 each. Mama's Kitchen hopes to sell 5,000 pies and raise $100,000 to directly fund thousands of free, hot nutritious meals and help ensure that no one living with HIV/AIDS or other critical illnesses in the community will go hungry.
It is easy as pie to support the Mama’s Pie in the Sky bake sale and make good things happen for everyone during Thanksgiving and throughout the year. Mama’s Kitchen is looking for individuals and businesses to help sell pies and to purchase pies this year. Restaurants, caterers and bakers are also encouraged to donate pies to the cause. Visit http://www.mamaskitchen.org or call 619-233-6262 to learn more. The pies will be available for pick-up at many convenient locations on Wednesday, Nov. 26, the day before Thanksgiving.
About Mama's Kitchen:
Mama's Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund, a food bank for people with AIDS, discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious food. In 2006, Mama’s Kitchen expanded their mission to include delivery of hot meals to people with other critical illnesses, such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Today, Mama's Kitchen provides three meals a day for every day of the week to over 300 men, women, and children affected by AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County.
