Mama’s Pantry Opens Temporary Home at The LGBT Center
San Diego, CA - Mama’s Kitchen, a nonprofit meal delivery service dedicated to providing nutritional meals to San Diegans affected by AIDS, announced today that it will open its doors for Mama’s Pantry on Tuesday, February 3. Mama’s Pantry will be temporarily housed at the The LGBT Center at 3909 Centre Street.
Mama’s Pantry is a food pantry service for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, which Mama’s Kitchen took over as a result of the decision by the board of directors of Something Special Food Pantry to hand over their program to Mama’s Kitchen. According to Mama’s executive director, Alberto Cortés, “Mama’s Kitchen begins a new chapter by expanding our nutrition services with the operation of Mama’s Pantry. We intend to continue the good work that Something Special Food Pantry’s volunteers have dedicated for many years.”
Mama’s Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. The entrance to the pantry is located on the south side of the LGBT Center. As Mama’s Kitchen expands its services to the pantry program, the community’s support is needed now more than ever. Volunteers and donations to Mama’s Pantry will be accepted by Mama’s Kitchen. About Mama's Kitchen
Mama's Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund, a food bank for people with AIDS, discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious food. Today, Mama's Kitchen prepares and delivers three meals a day for every day of the week to about 300 men, women, and children affected by AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County.
