SAN DIEGO – On Friday, May 6th Mama’s Kitchen will team up with more than 65 of San Diego’s finest restaurants for Mama’s Day 2005 – Mama Goes Wild, presented by Sycuan Resort and Casino, and SAIC, lead corporate sponsor. This year, dozens of San Diego’s most well known celebrity chefs will provide guests with a culinary adventure, showcasing their most popular and lavish specialties to help support Mama’s mission: providing food and nutrition to people affected by HIV/AIDS throughout San Diego County.
The Mama’s Kitchen event is set to draw a crowd of close to 1,000 people making it the biggest Mama’s Day event that the non-profit organization has ever seen. Mama has been hard at work the past year and rumor is, it will be a wild night at the 14th annual celebration featuring entertainment, a silent auction, an Absolut Martini Bar and more!
“We are looking forward to Mama’s Day, last year’s event proceeds provided over 71,000 meals to San Diegans in need and we hope to exceed those proceeds this year,” said Alberto Cortés, executive director for Mama’s Kitchen. “The success of this event is directly attributed to the overwhelming support from the San Diego public and our corporate sponsors.”
Mama’s Day 2005 begins at 6:30 pm at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. Tickets for San Diego’s tastiest event are $125 with all proceeds benefiting Mama’s Kitchen. For further information, or to purchase tickets, please call Richard De Lancey at (619) 233-6262 x104 or visit www.mamaskitchen.org.
In addition to the public's support, Sycuan Resort & Casino and SAIC are joined by other Mama's Day sponsors: Union Bank of California, San Diego Magazine, Hyatt Regency La Jolla, Neiman Marcus, Absolut Vodka and Pfizer La Jolla.
It is estimated that currently in San Diego County alone 5,400+ individuals and families are struggling to survive with AIDS and an estimated 15,000 people are infected with HIV.
About Mama's Kitchen
Mama's Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund, a food bank for people with AIDS, discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious food. Today, Mama's Kitchen prepares and delivers three meals a day for every day of the week to about 300 men, women, and children affected by AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County. Mama’s Kitchen is located at 1875 Second Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101. For more information, visit http://www.mamaskitchen.org.
