SAN DIEGO - Mama's Kitchen has successfully launched its first-ever Thanksgiving bake sale, MAMA'S PIE IN THE SKY. From October 19 to November 16, volunteers are selling delectable treats through businesses, schools and organizations all over San Diego County . The pies will be available for pick-up at many convenient sites on Wednesday, November 23.
Through the sale of delicious pumpkin, pecan and apple pies, which will be generously donated by local pastry chefs, caterers and bakeries, Mama's Kitchen hopes to raise enough money to fund 400,000 home-delivered, hot and nutritious meals to families in San Diego County affected by HIV/AIDS. Mama's Kitchen has NEVER turned away anyone in need of help and the proceeds of the PIE IN THE SKY BAKE SALE will enable her to keep her promise.
The new fundraising event was initiated to recoup the recent losses in government funding, which total $115,000 in fiscal 2005. Since the event kicked off at PIE CENTRAL on October 12, with a party featuring a celebrity pie eating contest and an appearance by San Diego Charger, Ben Leber, mouths have been watering all over town as participants eagerly await their delicious pies!
It is easy as pie to support the MAMA'S PIE IN THE SKY BAKE SALE and make good things happen for everyone this Thanksgiving and every day. “Each bite that you savor of these delicious pies will warm your heart when you consider that the proceeds are brightening the lives of hundreds of San Diego 's most needy citizens,” said Alberto Cortes, Executive Director of Mama's Kitchen.
About Mama's Kitchen
Mama's Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund, a food bank for people with AIDS, discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious food. Today, Mama's Kitchen prepares and delivers three meals a day for every day of the week to about 300 men, women, and children affected by AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County. Mama’s Kitchen is located at 1875 Second Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101. For more information, visit http://www.mamaskitchen.org.
