SAN DIEGO – The 14th annual Tree of Life Lighting Ceremony, hosted by Mama’s Kitchen and Village Hillcrest, will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 6-7 p.m. The event, at the Village Hillcrest Retail Center (3965 Fifth Ave.), will feature several keynote addresses, a candlelight vigil, display of an AIDS quilt honoring friends of Mama’s Kitchen who have died from AIDS, and the Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego.
Tree decoration will be a highlight of the evening, with attendees hanging ornaments they’ve personalized with messages honoring relatives, friends or loved ones affected by AIDS. Ornaments are available for $10 each or two for $15, with proceeds benefiting Mama’s Kitchen. The decorated trees will be on display throughout December.
The tree lighting ceremony commemorates World AIDS Day, an international day of remembrance for those who have been affected by AIDS that also celebrates the progress made against the epidemic and brings remaining challenges into focus. More than 300 people are expected to attend this free event. Hot beverages and cookies will be provided by Mama’s Kitchen.

About Mama's Kitchen
Mama's Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund, a food bank for people with AIDS, discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious food. Today, Mama's Kitchen prepares and delivers three meals a day for every day of the week to about 300 men, women, and children affected by AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County.
