Help Wanted: Volunteer Drivers for Mama's Kitchen - Drivers Sought in North San Diego County to Deliver Meals to People Living with HIV and AIDS

SAN DIEGO – Mama’s Kitchen, a non-profit meal delivery service dedicated to providing meals 365 days a year to San Diegans affected by AIDS, needs volunteers to deliver meals to clients who live in North County Coastal and North County Inland. “We had an influx of volunteer help during the holiday season when community support is at its peak. However, our daily deliveries continue each day of the year regardless of the season, and we need just as much help in January as we do in December,” says Bill Patten, manager of volunteer services. “We could sure use some extra wheels to deliver meals to our clients, especially in North County.”

While Mama’s Kitchen headquarters is located in downtown San Diego, satellite pick up locations are established to serve clients in the North County Coastal and North County Inland areas. All route drivers are given specific driving instructions from house to house. Each route typically has 12 clients, and all deliveries need to be made between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Drivers must be at least 18 years of age and have car insurance.

Companies are encouraged to “adopt-a-route,” where employees give one day a week to deliver meals. Driving duties can rotate among employees. For more information about North County volunteer opportunities, please call Bill Patten, Manager of Volunteer Services at (619) 233-6262 or bill@mamaskitchen.org

About Mama's Kitchen
Mama's Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund, a food bank for people with AIDS, discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious food. Today, Mama's Kitchen prepares and delivers three meals a day for every day of the week to about 300 men, women, and children affected by AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County. Mama’s Kitchen is located at 1875 Second Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101. For more information, visit http://www.mamaskitchen.org.
