Mama's Heart Gets Bigger as Bourbon Street Presents the 11th Annual Wine Taste to Benefit Mama's Kitchen
Mama’s Pie in the Sky 2006 benefits local men, women and children living with AIDS/HIV and other critical illnesses; Sale begins Oct. 18
San Diego, CA – On Thursday, August 17, 2006, Mama’s Kitchen will present its 11th annual wine tasting event at Bourbon Street, a popular bar located in San Diego’s neighborhood community of University Heights. The annual event which draws a sell-out crowd of more than 300 guests, was started when Mama’s Kitchen was still a grass-roots organization. It has grown in popularity as a casual and fun event that benefits a good cause. All proceeds from the wine tasting event will benefit Mama’s Kitchen’s home delivered meals program for people with HIV/AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County.
The theme for the wine tasting event is Mama’s Heart Gets Bigger – carrying through with the recent expansion of the agency’s mission and services to provide nutrition to other disease populations. Mama’s Heart Gets Bigger – the 11th Annual Wine Tasting will feature a stand up comedy show by Monique Marvez - radio personality from JACK 100.7 FM’s popular morning show “Monique and the Man,” a silent auction, and five different types of wines generously donated by Southern Wine and Spirits. The wines will be paired with delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by the chefs of Sycuan Resort and Casino, Twiggs Bakery and Coffeehouse, Ono Sushi, Baja Betty’s and the newly opened Lei Restaurant and Lounge - Bourbon Street’s own sister restaurant.
According to executive director Alberto Cortés, “special event fundraising remains a critical source of funding for Mama’s Kitchen as it brings together new and old supporters in a relaxed atmosphere. We are thankful to the owners, staff and management of Bourbon Street for opening their doors and making us all feel welcome, for their most generous support, and for hosting this annual wine taste.”

About Mama's Kitchen
Mama's Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund, a food bank for people with AIDS, discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious food. Today, Mama's Kitchen prepares and delivers three meals a day for every day of the week to about 300 men, women, and children affected by AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County.
