Mama’s Kitchen Responds to Rising Gas Prices
SAN DIEGO – Mama’s Kitchen remains committed to providing home-delivered meals to people suffering with HIV/AIDS or other critical illnesses in San Diego County. Escalating gas prices, however, have greatly impacted our effort by creating challenges in the recruitment of delivery volunteer drivers. Last year, over 150,000 miles were traveled to deliver meals.
In response to this challenge, for the first time in our 18-year history, we will be modifying our delivery process beginning July 14 th . Instead of 5 deliveries per week, we will be making 3 deliveries per week, thereby reducing the amount of driving by 40%. We will still continue to provide 100% of our clients’ nutritional needs - 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. This service will simply be achieved with fewer deliveries which will reduce the number of volunteer drivers needed and result in the environmental benefit of reduced gas emissions.
