Kick-Off Event for Mama’s Pie in the Sky Thanksgiving Pie Sale is Mission Critical for Mama’s Kitchen: Thurs., Oct. 12
Non-profit organization to raise $100,000 as a result of shrinking government funding; Mama’s Pie In The Sky begins Oct. 18, ends Nov. 15
WHAT: 100+ community volunteers and business owners at a Kick-Off Party hosted by Mama’s Kitchen to learn the ins-and-outs of selling holiday pies for the Mama’s Pie in the Sky fundraising project.
The Mama’s Pie In The Sky bake sale is now in it’s second year, and is the largest, organized bake sale of its kind in San Diego (and possibly the West Coast). San Diego’s top bakers, caterers and chefs generously donate delectable apple, pecan, and pumpkin pies.
WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 - 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
& VISUALS:
6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Guests arrive, check-in. Interviews available with Alberto Cortes, executive director. Cortes is bilingual in Spanish and English.
6:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.: Brief introduction by Cortes, and Monique Marvez, JACK 100.7 FM.
6:45 to 7:00 p.m.: Pie eating contest!
7:15 to 7:30 p.m.: Sales training begins.
WHERE: 1875 Second Avenue, Downtown San Diego 92101.
Cross-streets are Second and Elm Streets. FREE PARKING!
IMPORTANT:
Each pie is $20.
Every pie sold pays for almost half of each client’s weekly meals – meals they might not have had without Mama’s Kitchen and the support of the community.
This year, Mama's Kitchen hopes to sell 5,000 pies and raise $100,000 to directly fund thousands of free, hot nutritious meals and help ensure that no one living with HIV/AIDS or other critical illnesses in the community will go hungry.
The public can pre-purchase pies between Oct. 18 and Nov. 15 from a volunteer or online at http://www.mamaskitchen.org. Pie buyers select a location in their community to pick up their pie(s). Pie pick-up day is Nov. 22.
