Our Mission
At Mama's Kitchen we believe that every person is entitled to the basic necessity of life, nutritious food. As a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization, we prepare and deliver food to men, women and children who are affected by AIDS or cancer.

Our seventh annual Pie in the Sky bake sale was a record breaking success! Hundreds of bakers, sponsors, pie sellers, and volunteers came together to make 2011's pie sale our most successful to date. More than 4,500 pies were donated to Mama's Kitchen and resold, helping to raise over $104,000 and providing more than 35,000 life-sustaining meals for our neighbors affected by AIDS or cancer. Pie in the Sky embodies the spirit and heart of our community by bringing together people from all walks of life who contribute to our fundraising efforts. On behalf of our clients, thank you to all!

We could not have such a successful pie sale, of course, without the delicious pies that were donated by bakers all around San Diego County. The luscious holiday pies were donated by Sycuan Casino, SeaWorld, Andaz San Diego, Behind the Scenes Catering, Bertrand at Mr. A's, Brothers Cafe & Catering, Centerplate, Elizabethan Desserts, Feast On This Catering, Food Farm Food Truck, Harbor Church, Hyatt Regency La Jolla, Hyatt Regency Mission Bay, Jenny WennyCakes, JRDN Restaurant at Tower 23, Just Call Us LLC, San Diego Culinary Institute, San Diego Desserts, Sbicca, The French Gourmet, The Manchester Grand Hyatt, The Wild Thyme Company and Twiggs Bakery & Coffeehouse.
Our generous sponsors included Title Sponsor Wells Fargo, who provided the locations for our pie distribution sites, Nico Insurance Services, and Teague Insurance Agency. Media sponsors included Sophie Radio, KyXyRadio, San Diego.com, San Diego Momfia, SDGLN.com, Rage Monthly, Uptown News, Gay San Diego, San Diego Pix, and Scatena Daniels Communications.
The year 2011 will go down in our history as one of transformational changes: we acquired, renovated and moved into a new home and kitchen for Mama's. We cared for hundreds of people in San Diego challenged by AIDS or cancer by providing a consistent source of nutrition. In doing so, not only did we stave off hunger, we also improved the chances for better health and improved long-term prognosis. It was a good year.
And so we enter 2012 with confidence. Despite many unknown and uncontrollable variables, we are confident that we, once again, will impact the lives of literally thousands of San Diegans. This confidence comes from knowing that you, our loyal supporters, will be there yet again, as volunteers, as financial contributors, as cheerleaders for the mission of Mama's Kitchen.
We anticipate sending out the sixth millionth meal sometime in February. Six million meals in less than 22 years – 75 percent of these meals were delivered in the last 10 years. This milestone is dedicated to our volunteer drivers who have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles in their own vehicles at their own expense to deliver these six million meals. Our hats are off to you.
In closing, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge our outgoing President of the board of directors, Dr. Ken Villa. Ken provided the type of leadership that made things happen, and keeps the mission of Mama's alive and dynamic. Thank you for your dedication and commitment.
