20th Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser Benefitting Mama’s Kitchen

SAN DIEGO – June 18, 2015 – The new bar, Park & Rec in University Heights hosts Mama’s Kitchen’s 20th Annual Wine Tasting fundraiser, presented by Impulse on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Partygoers will experience eclectic wine tastings with pours throughout the evening, while enjoying a sumptuous selection of hors d’oeuvres. Proceeds go directly to the daily operations of Mama’s Kitchen, the only nonprofit in San Diego that prepares and delivers three meals a day, for seven days a week, at no charge to men, women and children affected by AIDS/HIV or cancer.

“Our annual wine tasting event has become one of our signature and more important events,” says Alberto Cortés, executive director, Mama’s Kitchen. “The event provides a fun and relaxing opportunity for attendees to learn about how we provide life-sustaining nutrition to our neighbors battling AIDS or cancer. We are thankful to all who attend and support our mission.”

This year’s theme, “Which Wine Are You?” encourages guests to wear red or white to show which type of wine they favor. In addition to great wine, food and company, event highlights include music by Short Stax, a “Lucky Ticket” silent auction featuring gift packages from San Diego’s premiere dining and entertainment venues, as well as Mama’s Kitchen’s popular “Wine Deck” Drawing, where guests purchase a playing card for a 1-in-52 chance to take home a premium wine vault.

The Wine Bottle Ring Toss will return this year as well, a fun and competitive opportunity to win bottles of wine donated by generous companies and individuals. Attendees who bring five items to donate to the Mama’s Pantry service will receive three free rings to toss. The items to bring are among the most requested items by pantry clients and are donations of cereal, jelly, canned tuna or salmon. Also, wear red or white to get an extra ring toss!

Pre-sale tickets are available for $60, and tickets sold at the door are $70. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit www.mamaskitchen.org or call (619) 233-6262.

About Mama’s Kitchen

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Mama’s Kitchen was founded when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious, life-sustaining food. In 2004, Mama’s Pantry was opened to provide individuals with HIV/AIDS who are able to prepare meals the opportunity to supplement their nutritional needs. Mama’s Kitchen has served over seven million meals since it was founded and has never turned away a client who qualified for our services. Our commitment to our clients remains unchanged. Today, the organization has expanded its service to San Diegans affected by either AIDS or cancer. Mama’s Kitchen provides three meals a day, for every day of the year, free of charge, to approximately 350 men, women, and children in San Diego County.
